PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULED FOR
December 10th, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.
Regularly scheduled meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairwoman Mary Agnes Simons in the Conference Room and attendance taken.
Members Present: E. Sue Terhune, Jynil Schneider, Vickie Perreman, Mary Agnes Simons, Sondra Steers, Stefano Casadei, and Michelle Davis
Members Absent: Maureen Weller, Excused
Audience Attendance: None
1. MINUTES:
Minutes for November 1st, 2007 Meeting, were handed out for review by Simons.
ACTION: It was moved by Perreman, seconded by Casadei, to approve the minutes of the 11-1-07 meeting, as presented and place them on file. All Ayes. Motion Carried.
2. PUBLIC COMMENTS:
No Public Comments.
3. FINANCIAL REPORT:
Vickie Perreman, Treasurer, distributed a finance report which indicates that the committee currently has a balance of 42,488.15, which balances to Township records after making a $19.73 adjustment.
Perreman then discussed the status of tracking park fees. The committee agreed to finalize the books for park reservations for this year and begin with a new system with the new fiscal year in April.
ACTION: A motion was made by Simons to reimburse three residents $15.00 each from the deposit collected for park reservation. This motion was seconded by Terhune. All ayes, motion carried.
4. STATUS REPORT ON APPLICATION FOR TOWNSHIP MILLAGE FROM ST. CLAIR COUNTY:
Sue Terhune indicated that the application was approved for county mileage funds and that the check for $15,889.12 should be to the township offices within 14 days.

5. ARTICLE TO APPEAR IN JANUARY TWP. NEWSLETTER:
Mary Agnes Simons distributed to the committee a draft of an article to be published in the January township newsletter.
Action: The draft was reviewed and approved by the group.
6. VERIFICATION OF DATES FOR SPECIAL EVENTS FOR 2008:
The following dates were set for special events for 2008:
Easter Egg Hunt and Opening of Park: March 22, 2008
Annual Township Picnic: September 14, 2008
Halloween Party: October 26, 2008
Possibilities for other events were also discussed by the group such as a township yard sale, a farmer's market, Arbor Day tree giveaway. Terhune also indicated that the local food pantry will again set up two food giveaways at the Marine City Airport. The group discussed perhaps combining a tree giveaway and a flower exchange in May and having a yard sale in June.

7. AFGANS WARM UP AMERICA PROJECT DISCUSSION:
Sondra Steers addressed the committee with a service project idea for making afgans and quilts for the needy. Handouts about the project were distributed and discussed.
Action: A motion to allow a letter of advertisement being sent to the community was made by Perreman and seconded by Terhune. All ayes, motion carried.
8. SOFTBALL FIELD UPDATE:
Terhune addressed the group regarding the situation of the grass on the football field. She has been advised that the field will need to be turned up by disc and reseeded.
Action: Perreman made a motion to send a letter to TK and Associated to complete their contracted work on the field within 30 days. The motion was seconded by Sondra. 6 Ayes, 1 abstain, motion carried.

9. ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION:
Per Terhune, the Master Plan proposal was approved by the board on 12-5-07, and signed copies were sent to Montgomery and Associates.
Per Perreman, she will make contact again with a person or organization that can take care of making new tarps for the pavilion. An invoice for the gravel in the parking lot has not yet been submitted. The dirt from the water district 2-A will be free. The group needs to look into where the dirt will be stored.
Per Simons, the bids for the walking path are done but not yet mailed.
